Remove Bitguard

What is Bitguard?

Bitguard is a potentially unwanted application developed by PerformerSoft LLC. Its primary purpose is to make sure that the modifications made by the program it came bundled with remain unchanged. In other words, the software prevents computer users from restoring their browser settings after they have been altered by a browser hijacker or another potentially unwanted program. Based on the description, it is clear that the application does not enter your system alone. It travels in freeware and shareware bundles and is not the only unwanted program on your PC. If you want to return your browsers back to normal, you will have to terminate Bitguard.

How does Bitguard work?

As it has already been mentioned, Bitguard gets distributed with the help of free third party software bundles. It has been in particularly associated with Softango installers. During freeware installation, you are presented with additional offers. These offers are often of browser hijackers, adware and other potentially unwanted programs. If you do not decline them, you agree to their installation unwittingly. That is how you have ended up with Bitguard and the application that has changed your browser settings without your permission.

If you want to avoid similar issues in the future, you need to follow certain steps. First, always choose Advanced or Custom installation mode and pay attention to the installation wizard. Secondly, if you see any optional offers, decline them no matter what they promote. And finally, always try to avoid downloading free programs from unreliable sources and instead use official websites.

Once Bitguard gets installed, it registers a bidguard.dll file under AppIniti_DLLs in the Windows Register, which allows it to automatically launch every time you turn on your computer. If you try to alter your home page, default search engine or browser extensions, the application blocks these attempts. You will not be able to get rid of the unwanted modifications as long as this program stays on your PC. That is why you need to delete Bitguard from your system as soon as you can.
